State-of-the-Art Technology assists the physicians in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
In the past 10 years modern cardiac cath labs have undergone an enormous development. Before, cath labs were mostly used for the diagnostics of cardiac diseases, while today it is a high-tech environment for minimally invasive diagnostics and therapy. Many procedures, for which previously open heart surgeries would have been required, can now be carried out using interventional catheter techniques.
A major focus of most cath labs is the diagnostic and treatment of coronary heart disease (CHD). Modern stent technologies allow treatment of even the most complex anatomical constrictions (stenoses) of cardiac vessels. However, our philosophy at the OHC is not to pursue catheter treatment at any price. There are indeed circumstances in which conventional bypass operation is preferable over catheter treatment. We discuss each patient’s case individually in our interdisciplinary heart team to decide on the optimal treatment procedure.
Today the possibilities to treat heart problems extends well beyond the treatment of coronary heart disease. Cardiac abnormalities (ASD, VSD, PFO, etc.) and valve defects can also be treated with interventional techniques. At the OHC we also offer all techniques to prepare You for an interventional valve replacement procedure (e.g. TAVI), which we carry out in cooperation with our cardiac surgery colleagues. Thanks to our long experience in the treatment of structural heart disease we offer modern interventional procedures such as, e.g., Occluder Device Therapy, at the highest international level of quality and expertise.
